I started using 750words for my writing in early 2010. Despite having had a streak of over 200 days and having written over 700,000 words using the site, though, I can’t say I’ve used it regularly in quite some time.
The owner of the site has made the difficult decision to switch the site over to a pay model starting next month. This caught me off-guard since it’s directly opposed to what he’s always said up to this point, but I understand that situations change. For me, then, the question is whether the tool is worth it for me.
It’s really no different from magic, is it? I shy away from using wands and amulets and all the magical trappings, but I have my forging equipment, and I still consider that magical. It’s how you use it, not what you use, that matters.
I prefer to go without fancy tools, for the most part. I don’t like getting hung up on what I’m using instead of what I’m doing. 750words is a great site, but it’s a tool. I should use it as long as it’s useful, and let it go when it no longer is.
It sounds like a really cool idea. I have just recently started writing my thoughts down daily.

I tried using 750 words during this past NaNoWriMo, and it was really helpful for a time but eh, I don’t know how useful it is to me anymore. I like the idea behind it, and I fully support the owner moving to a pay model, given how many people use it, but for me, yeah, it’s a tool that I don’t think I really need.
I’ve gotten great results from Zen Writer, though it’s a little bit fancier than 750 Words. It all comes down to finding what works best for you to get what you want out of the process.
Yeah, ZenWriter’s what I turn to when I need to lock down and get some writing done, it’s great for that.
Huh. There is not mention of this on the site, as far as I can see. It will quite a surprise to many users on March 1st when they go to log in!
There’s a single link when you’re in writing, in the first drop-down menu, which appears to have been added almost a week after the original post. Buster is kind of notorious for sucking at that kind of dissemination.
